Ha Soo Bin Studio Album Discography

Here's another blast from the past that I hope some of you will enjoy! 

Ha Soo Bin started her short career in her late teens during the early 90's, producing some great tunes. With her child-like voice and innocent demeanor, she quickly gained many admirers but after releasing her second album she left the music business to pursue other interests. She dabbled in acting, released books of poetry and explored other assorted avenues of art before breaking a 16 year hiatus to release her most recent album in 2010.

While I prefer the music her counterpart of sorts, Kang Suji, Ha Soo Bin certainly has a unique aura to her music that I really enjoy. Her coy composure comes through in her voice and you truly feel her "innocence" so to speak. She sort of reminds me of a "shy" Eri Nitta (if that makes any sense lol). 

Her music is typical fair for the time, but the two mesh together very well and each of her albums has a great assortment of pop arrangements. "노노노노노" was the first song I heard of hers a few years ago and I think it perfectly demonstrates who she is as an artist during her early career.

I really hope you check these out if you're looking for a nostalgic trip to a time when music artist were "more subdued" haha. They're great listens and I hope everyone enjoys!  Thanks to the now defunct Kpopspy for these albums!

Epik High: Remapping the Human Soul

I am a huge fan of Korean Hip Hop and this album was a special introductory to the genre for me. It still to this day remains my favorite Hip Hop album of all time. It is the best example of what Epik High as a group could accomplish and its size and scope push the boundaries of what can be considered a Hip Hop/Rap album. While I enjoy a large of amount of Western Hip Hop, Korea seems to understand how this genre is an art form and not purely a disposable money maker as it has become in the States. Epik High may have their fair share of controversy and dissenters but they remain an influential force in the music industry and can be compared to pioneers in the country like Seo Taiji, Drunken Tiger, Dynamic Duo and many others. Wether you are fan of rap or not, I promise you that this album at least breaks down some conventions that the genre too often depends on. Enjoy and more to come if you all like it! Lee Sun Hee (이선희) - Dream of Ruby & My Life

Sadly these are the last two from Lee Sun Hee for the small group of you that have been following these posts. I hope you all have been enjoying these albums! I'd like to apologize for the quality of "Dream of Ruby", the rip has some minor issues but not enough where you can't enjoy the album. I'm not one of the guys that complains when things aren't in overly perfect quality, but to each their own and that's probably while my blog doesn't get as many followers as others. I love music and I am just happy to hear albums that I would have never heard otherwise. K-Pop Selections: S.E.S. (에스.이.에스) - Sea & Eugene & Shoo / Baby V.O.X (베이비복스) - Why

School ended a little earlier today so I thought I'd work on some postings. I've got a lot of things planned and I hope everyone will enjoy them. I thought I return back to some K-pop and post two great albums that have grown on me recently, particularly the one from S.E.S. I found these files earlier this year from an old k-pop blog, pre-meagupload raid. They aren't the best quality but they still sound great. While the music is relatively new to me, it is rich with nostalgia. Particularly the first two tracks on S.E.S's second album. Both produced by Yoo Young-Jin , they capture both his signature styles and the feeling of the late 90's and early 2000's. Baby V.O.x's 4th effort is their first of the 2000's and in my opinion their best album.배신 is an great pop song and is complimented by the albums title track and "Bad Boy". Unfortunately, record/CD stores are scarce in Korea and when I do find some old cd's they are overly priced. So, if anyone happens to be a fan of K-pop from this era or older, please let me know and send me your files! I wouldn't even be at this stage though if it were not for FEN and his always impressive selections. Thank you FEN! Enjoy!

Yoo Young-Jin (유영진): Blues In Rhythm & Blue Rhythm

Yoo Young-Jin has arguably been the most dominant presence in K-pop over the last decade and a half but ironically, most are completely unaware of that fact. This singer/songwriter/composer, is responsible for some of K-pops biggest hits over the last few years but many do not know his name nor can recall his string of solo efforts under his current employer, the juggernaut that is SM Entertainment. Originally beginning as a performer for SM, Yoo Young-Jin shifted his interests to composing and arranging after he fulfilled his mandatory military service. While his signature style is still felt and his powerhouse vocals can be heard in accompaniment, Young-Jin has taken a backseat to the public eye and instead help solidified the careers and success of some of K-Pop's most well known groups. H.O.T, DBSK(TVXQ), Super Junior, and now the freshly debuted EXO, all owe their continued success to this man behind the scenes and while his at times "off-beat" artistic pursuits have been questioned, no one can deny his impact. While I enjoy the whole array of his works, I wish that he was still a performer. His vocals and arrangements and soulful, powerful and damn catchy. These are his first two solo albums and they make for great listens. Check out the covers of Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" and "Easy" on his 2nd album, they are great renditions. Enjoy!

Here's someone I've been really getting into since I got to Korea and luckily I found a torrent that contained nearly her entire discography (which I will be posting). Great vocals and a long lasting career, Lee Sun Hee won me over with

인연 and I hope everyone who visits can enjoy her music too. I'm gonna change it up with some more "modern-ish" Korean music with the next few posts, or maybe I'll combine it all....I haven't decided. Alive and Well in South Korea~!

Hello Everyone! I hope you've been well! I've been transitioning into my new life as an english teacher in South Korea and everything is working out very well. There are difficulties in living in a country where you don't speak the language very well but people are accommodating and supportive of my efforts of using Korean to communicate. Well enough about me...its back to music time! I hope to post as much as I can and first I'd like to focus on Korean music for a while since i'm here! So, todays post I'll start with a 2 disc Jeon Young Rok compilation I found in a record store in Busan. Two disc collections like this are fairly common in Korean department stores but I still find that most people have no idea who they are when I buy them, unless they are from that generation of course! People give me some perplexed looks when I ask for older music or Trot, but I guess its pretty strange for a waygook to know, let alone, like these artists! Jeon Young Rok is a great singer and his daughter has also continued the families musical lineage as a member of the famous k-pop group, T-ARA. Enjoy!
